Defender Puma CAN bus

andy, March 25, 2026

🎯 Goal

See what the Land Rover Defender Puma dashboard expects and receives.

🧰 Hardware

  • 1× CANable (second unit ideally)
  • The Puma dashboard
  • 12V power supply

💻 Software

  • SavvyCAN

🔌 How to Connect

CANable Puma Dash
-------- ----------
CAN High → CAN High
CAN Low → CAN Low
GND → Ground

👉 Plus:

  • Power the dash (12V + ignition feed)

⚠️ Critical Detail: Termination

If the dash is on its own (bench setup):

You MUST add:

  • 120Ω resistor between CAN High and CAN Low

Otherwise:

  • No communication / unstable bus

✅ What You Should See

If nothing else is connected:

  • Likely very little or no traffic

That’s normal.

Later, when translator is working:

  • You’ll see your injected messages
